DIY Coconut Oil Hair Mask

Hey all! I’m Amanda, and I’m so excited to be featured on Fortune Teller Fashion. Fortune and I met in our junior year of college in an advertising class. Once we chatted about our interests, we knew that her love for fashion and my love for cosmetics and beauty would form the ultimate glam squad!

We had the idea of me featuring and sharing my beauty tips and tricks on her fabulous blog. I had so many ideas for my first post. I have always wanted to use the multi faceted coconut oil in my hair as a little DIY hair mask. My frizzy, thick and damaged hair has been feeling a little dry lately so this is the perfect time to share my first impression with you.

From doing research on this dream oil and its many uses, I knew I had to pick up a jar. I purchased Ziggy Marley Coco'Mon Coconut Oil Organic Original at my local grocery store in the organic isle.

While there are many ways to attempt this mask, below are the steps I followed:
  1. Heat up as much oil you think you will need to put a generous coat of oil on your dry hair and mix that with a tablespoon of olive oil.
  2. Throw your hair up in a bun or braid, anything you would be comfortable with sleeping in.
  3. Use a shower cap over your hair and make sure to sleep with a towel on your pillow to avoid any mess.
  4. Wash out in the morning with shampoo and condition and luxuriate in sleek, shiny and smooth hair.
  5. Style as desired.

Review:

Waking up and washing out the coconut oil was a lot easier than I expected. I do suggest shampooing your hair twice and using a shampoo that gives you lots of suds just to make sure all the oil gets out. After conditioning and letting my hair air dry I noticed it was definitely softer and sleeker, however my ends were still a little dry. Next time, I will focus on putting extra oil on this section.

You may not feel like buying a $12 jar of coconut oil, but don’t forget how many uses it truly has. Use it as a simple skincare solution, cook with it (I recently used it as an oil replacement and it was delicious!), baking oil, and even makeup remover! Below are some links for y’all so you can do your own research on this oil.

Get your hands on some quality coconut oil, your body, hair and skin will thank you later.

Let me know if there any products you want me to try out and write a review on, I am always looking for new beauty items!
